The program assistant serves both the Integrated Teaching and Learning (ITL) and Engineering Plus (e+) programs and teams, providing prompt, polite resolution of engineering student, faculty and staff inquiries. 

Customer service is a key responsibility of the position and includes: student, staff and faculty service; problem assessment and solution; administrative support; survey processing; and financial processing and reporting. This position also serves as the ITL Laboratory building proctor, handling facility and equipment maintenance; facility scheduling and general program support. 

The Integrated Teaching and Learning (ITL) Program and Laboratory is an educational unit within the College of Engineering and Applied Science offering and supporting hands-on courses and workshops in undergraduate and graduate engineering to over 4,600 students during the academic year. In addition to engineering college students, the unit also serves the K-12 community through its K-12 engineering program, which includes student classes and programming, after-school engineering education and outreach, summer camps and teacher professional development workshops.

For international grad students planning to do OPT (optional practical training), be sure to apply early, starting Feb. 7, since it’s taking a minimum of three and a half months to process. Grad students must have their OPT authorization card in hand before they begin working.

Graduate students are reminded of the campus’s annual conflicts of interest reporting period, via the Disclosure of External Professional Activities (DEPA) reporting form. Emails about this important requirement were sent from the provost and vice chancellor for research to all graduate students—please check your emails.

Specific groups include but are not limited to all PRAs, research associates and research assistants (all levels), instructors (all levels), librarians, museum associates and fellows; also, non-employee graduate students if they are currently involved in the design, conduct or reporting of any research (including their own) or if they are involved in any CU employee’s affiliated company/foundation, etc. (compensated or not).

The following groups typically do not need to report: TAs, lecturers, professional exempts. However, university personnel involved in the design, conduct and reporting of research do need to submit a DEPA, regardless of job type. Email coi@colorado.edu with questions.

Tax season is approaching, which means important tax forms are, or will soon be, on their way to CU employees’ mailboxes. See when Forms W-2, 1042-S and 1095-C will be made available below.

Form W-2

W-2s have been sent to employees’ mailing addresses on file in their employee portal. If you have not received yours, click here to find out what to do.

After Jan. 31, quickly access the W-2 in the portal by following these steps:

1. Log into your employee portal.
2. Click on the CU Resources Home dropdown menu at the top, center of the page.
3. Choose the W-2 tile. You’ll be prompted to verify your identity before you can access this information.

If you see two W-2s (CU and CUR), we recommend you submit the ADP W-2 with your tax filing. This W-2 is a combination of CU and CUR wage and tax information.

Submitting multiple W-2s from the same company or with the same EIN may cause confusion with the IRS and states. This can cause a delay in processing your tax return.

Form 1042-S

The mailing deadline for the 1042-S form is March 15. Forms for the 2018 tax year will soon be sent to non-U.S. citizens who had one or more of the following in 2018:

• Tax treaty-exempt income
• Non-qualified scholarship payments
• Taxable compensation

Form 1095-C

Form 1095-C provides information about employer-provided health insurance coverage and specifies the months of health care coverage for employees and their eligible dependents.

The 2018 Form 1095-C will be mailed by March 4 to employees who were eligible for health benefits last year.

Note: Employees who sign up to receive this form through Digital Delivery before Feb. 15 will not receive a hard copy in the mail. A copy will be mailed to those who opted in after this date.

View your Form 1095-C electronically

This form will be available in the portal shortly after it is mailed. To access it, follow these steps:

1. Log into your employee portal.
2. Click on the CU Resources Home dropdown menu at the top, center of the page.
3. Select Benefits & Wellness from the dropdown menu.
4. Choose the Benefits Tools tile, then click the View Form 1095-C tile.
5. You’ll be prompted to verify your identity before you can access this information. Once authorized, click on the Tax Form you’d like to view and download your form. If a form has not been issued to you, a message will populate stating that no form is available.

The CU Hearing Research Laboratory is recruiting participants for a research study on how our ability to hear interacts with our ability to listen (focus our attention) in difficult listening situations, such as distorted or noisy speech. We are interested in whether measures of attention and memory can help us choose hearing aid settings that make speech more clear. You may be eligible if you are age 18 years or older with normal hearing or with hearing loss in both ears. Please contact us if you may be interested in participating in this study.

Are you aged 18–35 and healthy? Join our research study on sleep, performance and gut health

This study is about how sleep loss affects your ability to think and changes the helpful bacteria living in your gut. This research will help us to create treatments and strategies for people working long hours under stressful conditions at night (e.g., emergency workers and military personnel).

We are looking for healthy men and women, ages 18–35, to participate in two laboratory visits of approximately 3.7 days each at the CU Boulder Sleep and Chronobiology Laboratory.

Compensation up to $1,680.

The Children’s Auditory Perception Laboratory is currently recruiting children 9-16 years old for a research study to help us learn more about how children hear. During the testing, your child will sit in a sound-treated room and will listen to sounds presented over a speaker or through headphones. Your child will be asked to indicate when they hear sounds by playing games. The sounds we use are not loud. One visit to the laboratory is required. The visit lasts about 1.5 hours. You will receive $10 per hour, and we will pay for your parking if you drive to the lab. If you are interested, please email childhear@colorado.edu or call 303-735-6252. The principal investigator for this research study is Angela Yarnell Bonino, PhD, Department Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. All testing will be completed in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) building on the CU Boulder campus.

The Child Research Participant Registry connects families and researchers, so that together we can advance our understanding of human communication and methods to diagnose and treat children who have communication-related challenges.
