Brian Groves, executive director auxiliary services, announced Jessica Carlsen as the new director of the CU Book Store (CUBS), effective March 1.
“Jessica’s depth of retail experience and knowledge of CU Book Store operations makes her the ideal leader to move the store forward during this rapidly changing time in collegiate retail,” said Groves. “Jess has helped the CU Book Store navigate numerous changes and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing to focus on the needs of its customers and employees. I am excited for the work she will do leading the CUBS team.”
Carlsen began her career at the CU Book Store in 2012 as merchandising and sales floor manager and most recently served as associate director for retail services.
As the director, she will provide leadership and oversight for all areas within the department and will develop and enhance collaborative relationships, both on campus and with external partners. She has helped the CU Book Store navigate numerous changes and challenges during the pandemic while continuing to focus on the customer and employees.
Before joining the CU Book Store, Carlsen spent more than a decade with Williams-Sonoma as a general manager, new store opening specialist, HR program trainer and risk management trainer. She has vast experience in organizational leadership and retail management that will benefit the CU Book Store.
“I am honored to serve as the CU Book Store director and look forward to continuing the great work the store does serving CU Boulder faculty, staff, students, alumni and fans,” said Carlsen. “The store plays a critical role in supporting student success, and I look forward to leading our organization as we evolve and adapt to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.”
