ANTH 4020: Contemporary Issues in Native American Life In this course we challenge popular stereotypes while exploring several key issues facing Native Americans and their communities through readings and films with a particular focus on indigenous scholarship and media. We will cover reservation health and poverty, casinos, blood quantum and identity, land rights, language revitalization, comedy and representation in popular and indigenous media, including recent Native American science fiction films.
