AIA lecture series: 'Between East & West at the End of Antiquity: The Marzamemi Shipwreck'

Among the dozens of ancient shipwrecks discovered off the southeast coast of Sicily, a large vessel that sank in the 6th century AD near Marzamemi stands out. In this free lecture, Professor Justin Leidwanger of Stanford University discusses the emerging items and clues discovered underwater, such as cooking pots, iron fasteners and tools, transport amphora lids and mineral pigments, and explains the historical, religious and archaeological context of the fragments and find.
