Public Lecture: The Science of Smell

The sense of smell is essential to survival. Smells warn us if food is bad and can be powerful enough to trigger distinct memories. How it does that was an enigma until Nobel Laureate Richard Axel discovered 1,000 different genes that encode olfactory receptors. Learn more about Axel’s discovery and how we translate the sensations around us into knowledge that is key for our survival. Tuesday, Oct. 7 - 7 p.m. Math 100 Introduction by Tom Cech This lecture is free and open to the public.
