The Chinese Crises of 1900: Drought, Insurrection, and Invasion in the Year of the Boxers

This illustrated talk, given by Jeffrey Wasserstrom, Chancellor's Professor of History at UC Irvine, will focus on the Boxer Crisis of 1900, looking at how it has been linked to "catastrophes" of different sorts. Also to be explored are the ways that memories of and stories about the Boxers have affected Chinese relations with the West up to the present. This lecture will be held on Thursday, September 26, at 5 p.m. in Humanities 250. For more information, please contact the Center for Asian Studies at casevent@colorado.edu or 303-735-5122.
