Summer personal aides needed in Denver

A young man (21) in a wheelchair with Duchenne muscular dystrophy needs assistance with daily activities over the summer. The opportunity is located at his family home in Cherry Creek North while he is on break from CU Boulder. He has a great sense of humor, loves watching sports and enjoys playing Xbox. He is physically but not cognitively impaired.

We are seeking someone who is dependable, compassionate, patient and willing to make a positive impact in someone else’s life.

Details

  • Dates: May 6–Aug. 23 (approximate)
  • Shifts available: 8–11 a.m. and/or 5:30–8:30 p.m. with some flexibility. Monday–Friday and/or weekends.  
  • Compensation: $19–$23/hour
  • Benefits: You will be employed directly with a home health care agency, so benefits like medical/dental/401(k) are available over 30 hours/week, plus sick leave and PTO.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the general care and well-being for the client
  • Transfer client using a hoyer-lift
  • Assist with dressing/undressing, and personal hygiene (showering, nail care, brushing teeth, etc.)
  • Bathroom assistance and general oversight
  • Preparing and/or assisting with meals depending on the shift
  • Light housekeeping and organization (supplies, medications, etc.)
  • Assist client as needed due to immobility
  • Physical therapy exercises, occasional walks and general companionship

Previous experience is helpful but not required. There will be on-site training done, a nurse on call that can help with any care questions, along with the client’s parents who can be reached with questions and, often times, will be able to assist. Parking pass/spot provided in front of home. Background check is required.
