The SHINE Lab at CU Boulder is recruiting teams for a cognitive neuroscientific study about processing limited information during a Mars Rover Mission. Our goal is to understand how different brain systems relate to behavioral performance and to psychological concepts measured by self-report measures. 

As a participant, you will wear a mesh cap on your head that has light optodes attached to it that measure changes in blood flow (functional near infrared spectroscopy). It lasts approximately three hours, and you will receive compensation for your participation. 

Who can join this study: 

• You are between 18-65 years old 
• You can speak and read English 
• Comfortability and familiarity with using computers
• Comfortable and able to communicate via email, text message or phone

Who can't join:  

• Those without alternatives to glasses
• History of seizure disorder, epilepsy, convulsions or increased intracranial pressure
• History of psychiatric illness or head injury in the last six months
• Those who are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Unable or unwilling to meet study attendance requirements
• Those who have consumed alcohol or recreational drugs in the last 12 hours

The campus has sustainability goals, outlined in its Climate Action Plan, to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve zero emissions by 2050. Decarbonization of the campus heating system is the signature project of that commitment. 

Student attendance is requested at this campus decarbonization Visioning & Alignment workshop session with the engineering firm Salas O’Brien and the CUSG Eboard to build momentum and transparency with student stakeholders. No experience is needed, all majors are welcome.

Instructors have received ongoing email communications requesting book and course materials information for fall 2025 courses. As a reminder, campus policy states that departments are required to identify what books and other course materials are required—or if a course will have no required materials or utilize open education resources (OER)—for their classes by the day of registration.

Getting accurate information from instructors is critical to the success of the CU Book Access program, which provides degree-seeking undergraduate students access to their required course materials by the first day of class for a flat rate each semester and also ensures the timely distribution of course materials for graduate students. The CU Book Store also provides course material information to the University Libraries, allowing them to build collections and course reserves to support teaching.

On Nov. 4, Colorado will hold a coordinated election. Colorado ballots were mailed to active, registered voters starting Friday, Oct. 10. If you haven’t registered yet or need to change your registration, there is still plenty of time. Ballots will continue to be mailed through Oct. 27 as voters continue to register or update/change their voter registration address.

Colorado does not have a voter registration deadline—you may register to vote and vote up to and including Election Day.

Whether you are voting in Colorado or your home state, make a plan to vote today.

Mail ballots

Any Colorado mail ballot can be returned to any Colorado official dropbox. CU Boulder has two 24-hour drop boxes: outside the UMC closest to Euclid Avenue and one at Williams Village (at the bus stop/lane). If voting an out-of-state ballot, please follow their ballot return instructions.

Registering to vote

Still need to register to vote or update your registration? If you plan to vote in Colorado either as a resident of Boulder County or another Colorado county, you can register to vote or update your registration online. You must register/make updates by Oct. 27 to be sent a ballot by mail.

On-campus students

Be sure to follow these special instructions for entering your address so your mail ballot can find you! If you miss the Oct. 27 date, you can still vote, but you must visit a Vote Center. Colorado residents from other counties will be offered a statewide ballot (Boulder County can’t print local candidates/ballot measures from other counties).

Out-of-state students

You may choose to request an absentee ballot from your home state (act now; deadlines may apply) or to register to vote in Colorado. Find more information at Student Voting or register online now.

Vote in person

Visit the Vote Center at the UMC beginning Oct. 27 through Nov. 4 (Election Day) to register to vote and/or get a ballot/vote in person. ID required (Buff OneCard accepted).

Election tours

Boulder County Elections is hosting public tours of our ballot processing facility. Tours take about 30–45 minutes depending on questions. Attendees get to see the journey of a ballot; how signatures on mail ballots are verified; and all the steps in place to maintain accuracy and security and how they keep votes anonymous. Tours take place on Wednesday, Oct. 29, and Monday, Nov. 3, at various times. Ask your professor for extra credit for attending! Get details and RSVP.

Join the Young Emerging Adult Research Study (YEARS) study at CU Boulder and CU Anschutz (IRB# 23-2067) to understand emotions. Earn $25 per hour (up to approximately $400 total) for up to three study session phases (one hour and 45 minutes). Must be 18–25 years, be able to attend in-person sessions and have a personal history of bipolar disorder or no mental health history.
