As you return for the spring semester, please take a moment to clean out your refrigerator and discard anything that was left in it over winter break. On Dec. 17-19, our area experienced high winds and power outages, which means that some residences lost power for extended periods, which may cause food to spoil – even if it looks or smells ok. Consuming food that has been unrefrigerated can lead to serious health risks, including foodborne illness.
When you return, please:
- Do not eat any food left in your fridge over the break.
- If you have medications that require refrigeration, please check with your medical provider.
- Discard all items that require refrigeration.
- Wipe down your fridge with a disinfectant to ensure it is clean before adding new items.
We understand the inconvenience but want to ensure your safety. Thank you for taking these precautions.
