Suspect in Friday’s vehicle theft and robbery arrested, jailed

A suspect who matches the description in a motor vehicle theft and robbery that occurred on the CU Boulder campus Friday morning has been apprehended, according to the University of Colorado Police Department (CUPD). The crime occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on March 18.

CUPD notified the campus community of the arrest on Friday night, after initially alerting campus of the crime on Friday morning. No one was injured in the on-campus incident. 

The suspect was arrested at approximately 5:25 p.m. Friday, near Hays, Kansas. The stolen vehicle was also recovered. 

CUPD notified police agencies throughout Colorado and nearby jurisdictions to be on the lookout for a stolen Toyota 4-Runner off-road vehicle with Texas plates. 

Police were notified of a robbery in Hays, Kansas, by a suspect matching the description of the campus incident, then spotted the vehicle in a restaurant drive-thru in nearby Russel, Kansas.

The suspect was taken into custody after a high-speed chase. 

CUPD would like to thank the Hays Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Russell Police Department, the Russell County Sheriff’s Department, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, and the other law enforcement agencies that helped in the search for and apprehension of the suspect.
