Regardless of whether you call the West your home or you are just passing through, as a student at CU Boulder you live, breathe, eat, drink and sleep "West." Take this opportunity to transform your unique perspective on this region into cash!

Search your hard drive for poems, stories and papers you have written on Western-related topics—or write something new—and enter the Thompson Awards for Western American Writing.

It only takes a few minutes to enter online. So, go ahead and “Write West!” Your entry could be worth $500 (or more).

What is Western writing?

It’s writing about the West. And what is that? In many ways that’s for you to decide. It could be about Westworld, or tacos, or a road trip, or Kobe Bryant, or snowboarding in the mountains, or branding time on the ranch, or your experience growing up in a border town, or environmental conservation, or immigration, or public lands management, or whatever the West means to you! The potential topics are endless.

Pick your genre. Tell your story. Enter today! The deadline is Tuesday, March 17. Open to CU Boulder students only.
