Undergrads: Apply for the TEDxCU executive committee

TEDxCU is a student-centered team that organizes a typical TEDx event, in addition to TED livestreams and TEDxCUSalon. We are looking for highly motivated and organized undergraduates who love spreading good ideas. We have openings in design, finance, marketing, media production, operations, outreach, partnerships, programming and TEDxCUSalon.

If you will be a junior or senior in fall 2021, you are eligible to apply for the executive committee. All undergraduate majors at CU Boulder are encouraged to apply! Applications for the TEDxCU 2021–22 executive committee will close at 11:59 p.m. MDT on May 5, 2021.

Freshman and sophomores are encouraged to apply to serve on the various committees and can apply in September 2021. Follow us on social media and visit our website to find out when committee applications open.

Summer hours begin May 10

Summer hours for the Boulder campus will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., effective Monday, May 10, through Saturday, Aug. 14. On Sunday, Aug. 15, the Boulder campus will return to its regular operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

These hours apply to employees working on campus or remotely. Some departments maintain their own unique hours of operation. Please follow your department's schedule.

Summer piano lessons for children and teens

The CU Youth Piano Program offers piano lessons for the summer 2021. All levels and ages are welcome!

Details about the program:

  • Students register for either 7 or 14 lessons this summer. Lessons can be online or in-person.
  • Instructors are graduate teachers––piano majors in the master's or doctoral program who love teaching kids!
  • Options of 30, 45 or 60 minutes per week.
  • Scheduling is flexible depending on child and instructor availability, with the option of skipping some weeks (because of travel, etc.).
  • Lessons start after May 17 and must end by Aug. 15.
  • Open to children ages 6–18. All levels of experience welcome.

CU Boulder South community meetings to be held April 9, April 12

The city and the University of Colorado will be hosting two community meetings to provide information and listen to feedback on the CU South Annexation project:

  • Friday, April 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.––Briefing Session

  • Monday, April 12, 4 to 5:30 p.m.––Listening Session

COSINC calls for proposals on material characterization projects

Now through April 30, the Colorado Shared Instrumentation in Nanofabrication and Characterization (COSINC) research facility is calling for new proposals that would be enabled by their equipment and staff.

The program aims to encourage new and innovative projects. Each selected effort will receive up to $500 of equivalent instrument time and 100 hours of assisted usage fee ($3,500 equivalent, some restrictions apply), for a period of six months. A total of three projects will be competitively selected from applications in any academic discipline or research area.

Research subjects needed for study on AI drone interaction

We are conducting research to investigate how people interact with an autonomous simulated aerial drone to conduct surveillance and reconnaissance missions using natural language and sketches. We are looking for healthy subjects aged 18-65 who can use a computer keyboard and mouse. Subjects will be tested for ~1.5 hours and will be compensated a minimum of $9 with the opportunity to earn a merit-based bonus of up to $20. Innovative data science course approved for fall 2021

This fall, a new introductory data science course, Interdisciplinary Data Science for All (AHUM 1825), aims to empower students to view data through a humanist lens and to see the humanity within data.

"AHUM 1825 is going to break down the boundary between the qualitative and quantitative. This is the kind of course that will get [students] thinking about knowledge and problem-solving in a new way."

Instructors: Submit book, course material information for fall 2021

Instructors will soon receive email communications requesting book and course material information for fall 2021 courses. As a reminder, campus policy states faculty and departments are required to identify what books and other course materials are required for their classes before the day that students begin to register for classes.

In addition, Colorado Revised Statute 23-1-134 requires the university to collect all book and course material information, including materials with no cost or courses with no required books or materials, to ensure students are informed prior to course registration which courses and sections use open educational resources (OER) or other low-cost course materials. Please submit all book and course material information, including materials that are free or courses with no materials required.

Course material information is critical to provide financial transparency to our students and to help them plan ahead. It is also needed in order for the university to maintain Higher Education Opportunity Act and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. Disability Services needs sufficient lead time to gain access to and prepare books and materials in suitable alternative formats for students who need them.

It's time to order commencement regalia

Undergrad regalia

Undergraduate students purchase regalia from the CU Book Store, either in store or online. Shop the full selection of inventory in-store during CU Book Store hours or during the Grad Appreciation Days Gear Grab, 9 a.m to 4 p.m. April 19–23.

Students may also order online. To ensure you have your regalia in time for the May 6 livestreamed commencement ceremony and virtual recognition ceremonies, order by:

  • 2 p.m. MDT April 26 for standard shipping
  • 2 p.m. MDT May 4 for free in-store pickup

Rush shipping options are available for orders placed after April 26. 

Graduate regalia

Master’s and doctoral students wear regalia purchased online from Jostens. The regalia set includes the gown, hood, cap/tam and tassel, and is yours to keep.

The order deadline to receive your regalia for the Grad Appreciation Days is Friday, March 26. If you do not wish to wear your regalia to the Grad Appreciation Days, you have until 11:59 p.m. MDT Friday April 2 to receive the regalia by the first week of May.
