Published between 1846 and 1855, the wild and melancholy novels of Anne, Emily and Charlotte Bronte baffled Victorian critics but won lasting popularity. In The Brontes: The Psychic Life of Things, we will examine the novels and poetry of the Bronte sisters. We will pay special attention to the ways that material objects in their writings and their lives are invested with psychological power – with love, fantasy, trauma, recovery and memory.
