AIA Lecture Series - Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga

This lecture will explore the little-known story of the dramatic Viking/Norse expansion across the North Atlantic from 850-1000 CE. Dr. William Fitzhugh of the Smithsonian Institution will help to correct popular beliefs about “Vikings” in North America in contrast with new archaeological evidence from Arctic and Subarctic regions. In addition, the likely cases of failure of the western Norse colonies will be discussed along with implications for future human arctic endeavors. Wednesday | Oct. 22 | Old Main Chapel | 7 p.m.
