This talk by Yang Yang, Ph.D. student in the Department of Geography, focuses on urban development in cities along this “new Silk Road,” and seeks to understand the role of Hui Muslims and Islam in the production of spectacular Islamic-themed urban landscapes, and the extent to which the Hui are perceived as resources in China’s efforts to build relationships with global Islamic financiers.
