BSI Scholars in STEM Undergraduate Research program currently accepting applications

Student studying under microscope

BSI (Biological Sciences Initiative) Scholars is a funding and professional development program for current CU Boulder undergraduates.

Eligible students conducting original STEM research are paid to work in a laboratory on the CU Boulder or CU Anschutz Medical Campus. Students also attend seminars to enhance the research experience, and summarize their findings through a presentation at the end of the term.

Applications for the 2017–18 academic year are due Monday, Sept. 18, for students who have not previously received funding through BSI.

For more information, please visit the BSI website.

Research subjects needed for study on nervous system

Participants will be compensated $40 for the experimental session.

The study will consist of two visits on separate days:

  • First visit: familiarization session, approximately 15 minutes
  • Second visit: experimental session, approximately 3 hours
  • Lower leg muscle contractions

Research study: A treatment for chronic back pain

Illustration of back pain

If you suffer from chronic back pain you may be eligible to participate in a paid research study on the benefits of a novel mind-body treatment for chronic pain.

The research study consists of two MRI scan sessions four to six weeks apart on the CU Boulder campus, before and after treatment. Participants will be compensated $225. MRI is safe and non-invasive technology for measuring brain function, and participants will be given a photo of their brain to take home. The treatment will be administered at the Interventional Pain Management clinic at the University of Colorado Hospital at the Anschutz Denver metro campus.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Age 21–70
  • Back pain for the last three months or more
  • No metal in the body (for MRI safety)
