CU student looking for caretakers

Hi Buffs! I’m Jake Levin. I’m looking for personal aides for my sophomore year. I have muscular dystrophy and will be living in Hallett Hall studying journalism. I use a wheelchair 100% of the time. I have a care team of caregivers that assists with all of the things I need in order to be successful for college life. We are looking to expand our care team for this semester as well as next spring semester, but this can be a year-round position if you desire.

Job description: Assist Jake (me) with daily tasks. Tasks include:

  • Bathroom use
  • Showering
  • Dressing
  • Attend meals with Jake
  • Retrieving things Jake might need

A more detailed list of tasks can be provided to those interested. Please note, muscular dystrophy is a degenerative disease, so the needs are subject to change over time.

Shifts

Average daytime shift is 2–3 hours. We are able to work with your class schedule as well!

  • Morning shifts: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Afternoon shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Evening shifts: Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday

Average overnight shift is 6–7 hours. You can sleep during these. Jake has a large dorm room with two separate rooms divided by a door, each having its own bed and desk. He also has a large private bathroom.

  • Overnight shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday

Pay

Between $16–$18 per hour depending on the shift worked. Overnight shifts are always $18/hour.

No experience necessary! We will provide you with training.

Research opportunity: Movement and decision-making

The Neuromechanics Lab at CU Boulder is looking for volunteers to take part in a research study that investigates the roles of effort and reward on movement decision-making.

To take part you must:

  • Be English-speaking
  • Be between 18-35 years old
  • Be right-handed
  • Have no neurological or other problems that affect your movement control
  • Have no recent history of falls
  • Complete our pre-screen survey

This study is expected to last one hour. Participants will receive an Amazon gift card as compensation. All procedures take place in our campus laboratory (Engineering Center, ECSL 1B21).

Plan ahead: Summer graduation deadlines for grad students

Master's and doctoral students: Check out these August deadlines for summer graduation.

Aug. 1

Doctoral grade changes must be submitted for incomplete courses taken during previous or current semesters.

Aug. 2

Master's thesis plan students must submit the thesis and thesis approval form to ProQuest by this deadline. The thesis must be submitted electronically for review and approval by Graduate School staff by the end of the business day. The thesis approval form (TAF) must be uploaded as a supplemental file with the dissertation in order for the submission to be complete. Students whose dissertations are received after this deadline, or those not submitted with the TAF, must apply to graduate at the following semester's commencement.

Aug. 8

Master’s grade changes must be submitted for incomplete courses taken during previous semesters.

Aug. 29

Deadline to update diploma name and address for summer graduates.

Planning to have your degree awarded in summer 2022? Ensure you have met all previous graduation deadlines on the Graduate School website.

Need to change your previous graduation plans? Be sure to apply online to graduate anew through Buff Portal for December or a future term.

Financial aid applies to bills Aug. 15: Make sure your aid to-dos are complete

Be sure you've got your fall bill covered––check to make sure all of your financial aid to-do items are complete before Aug. 15.

Financial aid will apply toward the bill the Monday before the first day of classes (Aug. 15 for fall) if all to-do items are complete. You may see tuition charges on your bill already, but things such as housing and other charges may not be available yet. You'll be able to view your entire fall bill by mid-August, but it's not due until Sept. 5.

Undergrads: Apply for NASA creative arts internship by Aug. 5

The NASA Psyche Inspired creative arts internship is open to all talented, creative full-time enrolled undergraduate students, regardless of major. Psyche Inspired is a program that brings students together to share the excitement, innovation, and scientific and engineering content of NASA’s Psyche mission with the public through artistic and creative works.

Eligibility

  • Open to all undergraduate majors
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at a university or community college in the U.S. or its territories
  • Must not be graduating any earlier than spring 2023

Revisit and reflect on your goals for self-care. Explore how to create supportive teams and learn strategies to communicate more effectively with those you work with. Jennie Bernstein, PsyD, training and coaching program manager, and James Huffman, academic partnerships and outreach program manager from Health Promotion, will guide you through this two-part series tailored to graduate students. Lunch provided to those who RSVP by July 13.

Doctoral students must complete the PhD dissertation defense or final examination by this date. Notice of the examination must be provided to the Graduate School by your academic unit two weeks before the exam on an examination report form.
